The story of Hazrat Yusuf (A.S.) is one of the most emotional and inspiring stories in the Qur’an. It’s a story of jealousy, betrayal, patience, loyalty and divine wisdom. His life shows how Allah can turn the darkest moments into the greatest blessings, and how purity of heart always wins in the end.

This retelling keeps the story respectful, simple and engaging so readers of all ages can understand the message behind it.

A Child with a Special Gift

Hazrat Yusuf (A.S.) was the son of Hazrat Yaqub (A.S.) and the grandson of Hazrat Ishaq (A.S.). Even as a young boy, he stood out for his beauty, kindness and gentle personality.

One night he had a dream that would change his life forever. He saw eleven stars, the sun and the moon bowing to him. Curious and excited, he told his father. Hazrat Yaqub (A.S.) immediately understood that this dream was not ordinary — it was a sign that Yusuf would one day become a leader and a Prophet blessed with greatness.

Yaqub (A.S.) told him to keep the dream private so his brothers wouldn’t grow jealous. But destiny had already begun its course.

Jealousy in the Family

Yusuf (A.S.) had eleven brothers. Most of them misunderstood their father’s affection and saw Yusuf as a threat. Their jealousy slowly turned into resentment. They feared Yusuf would overshadow them, even though he never harmed anyone.

After years of competition and bitterness, they made a painful decision. They wanted to remove Yusuf from the family so their father’s love would belong only to them.

They approached Yaqub (A.S.) and asked him to let Yusuf come with them for a day of play. Yusuf’s father felt uneasy, but he eventually agreed, trusting Allah’s protection.

Thrown into the Well

Once they reached the countryside, the brothers carried out their plan. They threw young Yusuf into a deep, dark well and left him there alone. He was scared but stayed calm, holding onto his faith.

Allah comforted him with a message that one day he would remind them of what they had done — but at a time they wouldn’t expect.

The brothers returned home with a fake story. They stained Yusuf’s shirt with false blood and told their father he was eaten by a wolf. Hazrat Yaqub (A.S.) didn’t believe them, but he remained patient, trusting Allah’s plan.

This was the beginning of Yusuf’s long journey of trials.

Saved, but Sold into Slavery

A passing caravan stopped at the well for water. To their surprise, the bucket came up with a young boy holding onto it. They recognised Yusuf’s beauty and sold him in Egypt as a slave.

He was eventually purchased by a nobleman known as Al-Aziz. Al-Aziz treated Yusuf well and brought him home, telling his wife that the boy might one day benefit them.

Yusuf (A.S.) lived there for years, growing into a wise and handsome young man. He stayed loyal, honest and trustworthy in everything he did.

The False Accusation

As Yusuf grew older, his beauty became famous. The wife of Al-Aziz developed feelings for him, but Yusuf (A.S.) rejected her advances. He respected his master and feared Allah, so he stayed firm.

Embarrassed by his refusal, she accused him unjustly. Yusuf was innocent, but instead of publicly exposing her, he chose patience. Even when people supported him, the situation forced him into prison to avoid scandal.

He accepted imprisonment over disobedience, showing his strong moral character.

Wisdom in the Prison

Even in jail, Yusuf’s character shined. He became known for his calmness, kindness and deep faith. Two prisoners approached him with dreams they didn’t understand. Yusuf, gifted by Allah, interpreted their dreams accurately. One of them was released and went back to serve the king.

Years later, the king himself had a confusing dream: seven fat cows eaten by seven lean cows, and seven green ears of grain and seven dry ones. No one in the kingdom could explain it.

The servant who had been in prison remembered Yusuf and informed the king. Yusuf was brought out to interpret the dream.

He explained that the dream meant seven years of good harvest followed by seven years of severe drought. He advised the king to store grain during the good years to survive the difficult period.

The king was impressed by Yusuf’s wisdom and recognised his innocence. Yusuf was cleared of all accusations and given a position of authority in Egypt.

From Prison to Power

Yusuf (A.S.) became one of the most trusted leaders in the kingdom. He managed the country’s resources during the good years and ensured people survived the drought. His intelligence and kindness won the hearts of the people.

His transformation – from a boy in a well to a leader of a nation — is one of the most powerful examples of Allah’s plan at work.

The Brothers Return

When the drought hit, Yusuf’s family in Canaan suffered too. His brothers travelled to Egypt for food, not knowing that the official in charge was their own brother.

Yusuf recognised them immediately, but they didn’t recognise him. He tested their behaviour to see if they had changed. He later asked them to bring their youngest brother, Binyamin, so he could confirm their identities.

After several emotional encounters, Yusuf eventually revealed his true identity. The brothers were shocked and ashamed. They asked for forgiveness, and Yusuf, being gentle-hearted, forgave them completely.

The Reunion with His Father

Yusuf (A.S.) then sent his shirt back home with the brothers. When the shirt touched Yaqub’s face, his eyesight returned — a miracle from Allah. Overjoyed, Yaqub (A.S.) travelled to Egypt to reunite with his son.

When father and son finally met again after decades of separation, it was a moment filled with tears, gratitude and love. Yusuf raised his parents to the throne, and the whole family was reunited.

His childhood dream finally came true.
