The life of Hazrat Sulaiman (A.S.) is one of the most unique and extraordinary stories in Islamic history. He was a Prophet, a king, a judge, a commander and a man blessed with powers no other human ever received. His rule was marked by justice, kindness, wisdom and total submission to Allah.
Despite having a kingdom unlike any other, he remained humble and grateful.

A Son of a Great Prophet

Hazrat Sulaiman (A.S.) was the son of Hazrat Dawud (A.S.). From a young age, he showed remarkable intelligence, calmness and maturity. Even as a child, he understood things far beyond his age. His father noticed his potential and often included him in matters of leadership and judgment.

This early training prepared him for the enormous responsibility he would one day carry.

A Test of Wisdom in Childhood

One famous incident shows how gifted he was as a child.

Two men came to Hazrat Dawud (A.S.) with a dispute:
A man’s sheep wandered into another man’s farm at night and destroyed all the crops. Dawud ruled that the sheep should be given to the farmer as compensation.

But young Sulaiman gently shared a better solution.
He suggested:

  • The farmer should keep the sheep temporarily for milk and wool.
  • The sheep owner should replant and restore the damaged field.
  • Once the field returned to its original state, both would exchange back.

Hazrat Dawud immediately recognised his son’s wisdom.

This incident showed that Sulaiman had been blessed with a mind that understood justice deeply.

Given a Kingdom and Miracles

When Hazrat Dawud (A.S.) passed away, Sulaiman became both a Prophet and the king. Allah granted him an extraordinary kingdom and powers no one before or after would ever have.

He was blessed with:

  1. The ability to understand and speak to animals

He could communicate with birds, insects and animals. They understood him, and he understood them.

  1. Control over the wind

He could command the wind to carry him and his army across long distances within minutes.

  1. Authority over the jinn

Powerful beings made from smokeless fire were ordered to serve him. They built monuments, palaces, and carried out difficult tasks under his command.

  1. Unmatched wisdom

His judgments were so fair and thoughtful that even today people admire his leadership.

All of this was a gift from Allah, and Sulaiman never became proud. He always said:

“This is a blessing from my Lord, to test whether I will be grateful.”

The Story of the Ants

One day, Sulaiman marched with his huge army — humans, birds and jinn — in perfect formation. As they passed through a valley of ants, the queen ant warned her colony:

“Go into your homes so Sulaiman and his armies don’t crush you unknowingly.”

Sulaiman heard her. He smiled gently and thanked Allah for giving him such amazing blessings.
This moment shows his kindness — even a tiny ant mattered to him.

The Hoopoe and the Queen of Sheba

One of the most famous stories of Hazrat Sulaiman is his encounter with the Queen of Sheba (Bilqis).

The Missing Hoopoe

Sulaiman noticed that the hoopoe bird was missing from his army. After a while, the hoopoe returned with important news:

“I found a great kingdom ruled by a woman. Her people worship the sun instead of Allah.”

Sulaiman immediately sent a letter inviting her to Islam and asking her to reflect on truth.

Her Reaction

Bilqis was intelligent. She didn’t jump to war. She sent messengers with gifts to test Sulaiman’s intentions.

Sulaiman rejected the gifts and made it clear that the truth could not be bribed.

A Throne Brought in Moments

Sulaiman planned to show Bilqis the power of Allah. He asked who could bring her massive throne from across the world before she arrived.

A powerful jinn said he could bring it before Sulaiman stood up from his seat.

But someone with knowledge of Allah’s Book brought the throne within the blink of an eye.

Sulaiman thanked Allah and made sure he never became proud of miracles.

Bilqis Encounters the Truth

When she arrived, she saw her throne and realised no kingdom could match Sulaiman’s power and wisdom.
Later, she witnessed a palace floor that looked like water. She lifted her dress to avoid getting it wet — but it was actually crystal glass.

This moment humbled her.

She accepted Islam and declared:

“My Lord, I wronged myself. I submit to Allah, Lord of the worlds.”

A King Who Worked with His Own Hands

Even with such a massive kingdom, Sulaiman worked with his own hands. He made baskets and items by weaving palm fibres. He earned his own livelihood just like his father Dawud (A.S.).

This shows his humility — power didn’t spoil him.

Tests and Gratitude

Hazrat Sulaiman faced trials too. One test came when he desired something strongly, and he momentarily forgot to say “InshaAllah.”
Allah taught him a gentle lesson, reminding him that everything happens only by His will.

Sulaiman turned to Allah in repentance and gratitude, asking:

“My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom that no one after me will have.”

Allah accepted his dua — but his humility never changed.

His Death

The death of Sulaiman (A.S.) was as powerful as his life.

He was standing with his staff, watching the jinn work. Allah took his soul while he was still in that position. The jinn continued to work, thinking he was watching them.

Only when a termite ate through his staff and it snapped did his body fall — and the jinn realised he had passed away long ago.

Allah used this moment to show that the jinn do not know the unseen.
